June 2021 Artwork

What does June like in the art studio?

Check out some of my most recent artwork!

June is a busy month for my family. As the month of our summer vacation from “official” homeschooling, June is full of hikes to local creeks to cool off, playing with children in the sprinkler, working in the vegetable garden, and harvesting dozens of bowls of berries!

We have goumi berries, strawberries, and blueberries that are ripe now, and I have been spending hours every day harvesting and processing them. (Any fresh berry recipes????) I am looking forward to painting some pretty punny berries soon, but the mosquito bites, sunburn, and scratched up arms have me less than inspired at the moment!

Keep scrolling to see what I have actually been up to painting-wise this month!

Who doesn’t love a happy sunflower? Sunflowers have always been my favorite flower! I love that they follow the sun, how cheerful they are, and how enthusiastically they grow.

This painting was inspired by the first flowers my husband gave me on one of our first dates. He packed them in his backpack along with a candle when we took a hike to have a picnic supper. (Take notes if you’re looking for a good date night!) Nine years later we have sunflowers growing on our homestead every year & enjoy all the good memories they bring back!

A vibrant sunset view from my front porch! The sun sets below a hedgerow of tall green trees behind the fresh green crop fields across from our yard. I love the peaceful, quiet happiness this inspires, though I am not sure I will ever be able to fully express the glory in each new sunset!

One of the two official birth flowers for July is the water lily, which inspired this piece. While my daughters are much bigger fans of pink than I am, I embraces the bold color and strong lines to create this pink water lily. Perfect for a card or birthday art print for any July birthdays out there!
