Lets talk about decorating for your baby! Few things are more exciting than preparing a beautiful place to enjoy with your precious little one. Unfortunately, many new parents overlook that that tiny bundle of joy will not really appreciate the time and money put into an instagram-worthy nursery, and by the time they can even see far enough to notice what is on the walls (let alone read) much of the decorations have already been outgrown.
As an artist and a mom who has shifted around my 2 “kid bedrooms” multiple times to accommodate my 4 small children currently, I want to suggest a few key points to consider when purchasing baby nursery wall art so you can enjoy it for as long as possible.
Don’t make customized images super large
Right now you might want a print of all your baby’s birth info that covers half the wall. What could be more important than displaying the exact second they were born or all their extra water weight? Ummmm, a lot actually. Like things that continue to share joyful, positive messages as your child grows up. By all means display their birth info, but use a smaller, easy to print downloadable image like these customizable 8×10 downloads I am designing to have on my shop soon!

Buy Prints and Frames Separately
Cut costs and storage space by buying prints. Unlike canvases or pre-framed images that cost more to ship and are bulky to store, prints can be rolled up or layered behind the current image in the display frame so you can quickly change out artwork. Buy my art prints here
Pick your Words Carefully
Choose to display words and phrases that can grow with your child and continue to delight as they grow. For example, instead of “welcome little one” or nursery songs choose phrases that can still be applicable even to adults like “Your future is beautiful” or “you steal the show” We all need encouragement, especially when we can actually read what is decorating the walls.
Pick and Choose from Collections
Use collections like mine to create cohesive, attractive wall displays of images and paintings that compliment each other. Embrace the overall voice of the art then pick and choose your favorites with confidence! Here’s a few animals from my woodland collection to give you an idea of how, even if you only pick one or two, they are all cohesive
Embrace YOUR Style
Decorate for your unique family and you will love the artwork that you choose long after the trends have moved on. If you love neutrals, embrace the restful, calming aesthetic and don’t worry about needing harsh contrasts to catch baby’s eye. Love bright colors? Great; go with some bold statement pieces and don’t worry about over-stimulating your baby’s brain. People will always be happy to tell you the “best” way to do anything, but when it comes to decorating your nursery walls, the most important thing is that you love it! Which makes you HAPPY?
